Autobiography Chapter 1: The Origin Of The Name "Ting Fung"
31 December 1995When "Yes!" asked me to write an autobiography, I was really taken back. I am only 17 and I have to write an autobiography. Is it a bit over the top? That's why I said: "There's no need for an autobiography, I only want to share with readers my childhood events, unforgettable experiences and my personal feelings, I hope that after everyone has read it, you can understand Tse Ting Fung even more."
On 29/09/1980, Nicholas Tse was born in Hong Kong's French hospital in room 3XX. I've already forgotten the real room number. But I know that after I was born, this hospital room was continuingly booked by people for a year. As for why, I don't know.
I am absolutely not an easy to look after baby, because I am often ill. From when I was born to when I was 3-4 years old, I was practically going to the hospital once every week. Because the doctor told my mother that I was allergic to cow's milk, that's why I should drink soya bean milk. Until after I was a little older, my immune system became stronger, it was only then did I not become ill as easily.
Due to the fact my parents often needed to go out to work, so the responsibility to look after me at home fell onto Hing.
Hing was already working for my father before I was born. Up till now she is still looking after me by my side, she love me dearly. When I was a child, apart from being ill often, I was very naughty, I especially didn't like to go to sleep. Usually I wanted her to hold me until 5 am before I went to sleep, so looking after me is very tough. If you had any less concentration you won't be able to last. Besides this, my Chinese name was actually given to me by Hing.
It was on a certain day, my father was thinking what he should call me Tse something Ting, and my mother was thinking should I be called Tse Fung something or Tse something Fung. At that time Hing was in her room looking at a Chinese word chart. Suddenly she ran out and said: "Madam, I've got it, why don't we call him Tse Ting Fung!" My father heard this and thought it was very good. So I got this name Tse Ting Fung. And my English name, Nicholas, was given to me by the Holland lady living next door.
A lot of people ask me, being born in a star family, will you think that you are unlike others? To tell you the truth, When I was young I didn't have this feeling at all, because at that time I basically couldn't feel that I had anything different to others. When the flash lights turned to my direction, they say: "Ting Fung, smile!" Then I smile. My parents took me to film TV commercials then I film TV commercials. I couldn't feel that pressure of being the son of stars at all.
