Wing Shya interview: Nicholas Tse is still a kid
by kelvin@multistars - 6th March 2010Source: SG
Reporter: For your movie this time you've used Nicholas Tse, when did you first meet him?
Wing: When he was very young, just over 10, he came over to film a clip, he was very obedient. In so many years, I think he is still that kid, he hasn't changed. He is still a kid now, to me, he's already become a boss, he has a child, his second child is coming, he is still like a kid, so I don't think he's grown up in his heart.
Reporter: Nicholas Tse really listens to you, is it feelings of a friend or respect to a senior?
Wing: Friends. For instance for this photo, he didn't have any ideas, I asked him: "If I filmed you, how do you feel about it?" He said: "However you think I should film it I'll film it that way, I believe in you."
Reporter: When was this trust established? And when did you become friends?
Wing: 5 years ago I filmed a piece, I said, come over to play, he said "OK". Because sometimes actors don't like taking pictures, he would rather spend time filming movies, you can tell how much effort you've put in watching movies, and for pictures, they don't think so. Later we talked about how to take pictures. For friends, we already started many years ago.
Reporter: Under what circumstances?
Wing: When he was with Faye Wong, we sometimes went out to drink. I remember on day he was with Faye Wong, that day was very fun, Josie Ho's husband now phoned me on that day telling me to go to his office, he said, "I'm getting married today", Josie Ho didn't know, Nicholas Tse and Faye Wong were there, a lot of people were there, on that day he proposed there and then, we all saw him proposing, it was a very touching scene. I talked with Nic a lot about taking pictures, he likes taking pictures, afterwards I went to Japan to help him buy gifts, we talk about anything, we were friends then, when he took pictures he would show them to me, we'd both look into it.
Reporter: Do you think he has any spirit when taking photos?
Wing: His photos are very unique, he finds some really unique things.
Reporter: Afterwards his mood was up and down, when he was down did he come to you?
Wing: No, we don't talk about feelings, but he's talked about his wife. It's not that I want to distance myself from actors, it's because I want that fresh feeling so I deliberately maintain a distance. I want to see something new every day I see them, so sometimes I step back a bit. I haven't taken a family photo for them. I am also good friends with Cecilia Cheung, they told me, "we got married", they showed me the picture, every time I see photos, there's something new to tell me. So when we're going to the photo booth we aren't talking about work, we're talking about fresh things that have happened.
Reporter: What's the real Nicholas Tse like?
Wing: He is a kid.
